General Scope of Project
Using the City of New Orleans resilience strategy, Resilient New Orleans, as a guide, the Office of Resilience and Sustainability (ORS) works with other city departments and agencies to advise on the strategic pursuit of comprehensive resilience priorities across environmental, social, economic, and infrastructural improvement goals. A tremendous initiative by the department is to create a comprehensive citywide storm water management plan. As a part of this planning process, the City has engaged Digital Engineering for the West End Hydraulic and Hydrologic (H&H) Assessment project.
The intent of the project is to model the potential flood impacts of a 2-, 5-, and 10-year storm using H&H modeling software, investigate where strategic green infrastructure can be combined with existing or upgraded grey infrastructure to provide flood protection based on a 10-year storm using the H&H model, and develop conceptual projects that can be advanced to detailed design phases by the City based on the recommendations developed within this project. The project area is the West End neighborhood from 17th Street Canal to the West, Pontchartrain Boulevard to the East, Veterans to the South, and Lake Pontchartrain to the North. Background research and analysis, Hydraulic and Hydrologic (H&H) Modeling, and all other associated work will be compiled into a final deliverable that can be used for prioritized flood reduction projects in the future. The scope of work for this task has been broken out in the following key areas and tasks:
- Data Gap Analysis
- Surveying and Data Collection
- Hydraulic and Hydrologic (H&H) Modeling
- Project Development
- Scoping Report
- Project Management
As a sub-consultant to Digital, Wingate Engineers has been engaged to perform a Data Gap Analysis, H&H Modeling, project development as well as assist with the development of the scoping report. This project is expected to be completed within one year.
